I received an email earlier this week from a young girl asking for sponsorship advice. There's no way around it - getting sponsorship is HARD. Especially after the global pandemic.
BUT, there are a few things you can do to increase your chances:
Know WHAT you want (be SPECIFIC)
Know WHY someone should sponsor you (what's in it for THEM?)
Make sure you DELIVER what you PROMISED!
If you're really struggling to attract sponsorship and don't have a huge social media following, you may have more luck setting up a small business and using the profits of that as your sponsorship. Frankly I prefer this idea as it means you're actually having to put in some real work yourself (as opposed to just putting up a post or story on your socials).
Lastly and most importantly, DO NOT COMPARE your fundraising efforts to anyone else. People who have the benefit of wealthy connections will find it A LOT easier to raise money (mind you they may have worked exceedingly hard to get those connections in the first place too, so don't judge them).
If you don't have that luxury, then you're going to have to roll up your sleeves, get resourceful and get to work.
